Buffy The Vampire Slayer  Rewatch

I’ve made a decision. I’m going to rewatch, and blog about Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I know I’m not the only person on the internet doing this. When I wrote “The Unkillable Mr. Marsters,” the Buffy fandom that takes up a huge part of the internet found my little corner here, and when looking back on a lot of the sites that linked to me, (and I am no end grateful) had “rewatch” blogs going on.

It seems like neat idea, and also, I want to give the people what they want and since Buffy fans seemed to like what I had to say, but I don’t have a lot to say about Buffy (I haven’t watched the show in years), I thought I’d give this a shot. I’m not saying that I’ll post on this everyday (maybe once a week). Or that I’ll write about every episode (As you saw during my Doctor Who week, I get bored easily), but it’s something I’m going to try!

I  want to preface this whole thing the way I prefaced my Avengers review. I’m a big Joss Whedon fan. And I love Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I don’t, however, think that it’s The Greatest Show of All Time.  I can never decide what I do think should have that moniker, but I don’t think it’s Buffy. But honestly? My vote goes to The Cosby Show. I know Buffy was a game changer and all, but have you ever seen the episode where Vanessa comes home drunk and they make her play a drinking game the next day? That’s good stuff! Also I don’t believe that Whedon is infallible. I think that he makes mistakes, sometimes critical ones, just like any other writer or showrunner. Some of Whedon’s mistakes include, Connor on Angel, killing Wash, post show comic books, the whole first half of season 1 of Dollhouse and ignoring the solid foundation of awesome for Black Widow and Pepper Pots lain out by Jon Favreau, because Strong Female Characters can only be so in the Whedon Way, other ways should be ignored. As long as we have that clear, I think we should be fine moving forward.

Wish me luck!

  1. Wow, I’ll have to come back here and check out your Buffy topics. My wife and I are showing out daughter Buffy (it’s so nice to be watching the episodes again, and so weird… THEY DON’T HAVE CELL PHONES OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL!!! I don’t think my daughter would have survived High School in the late 20th century.)

Anyway, it’s a nice experience to watch Buffy going thru High School, and having a daughter going thru High School. Just not on a Hellmouth. That we know of.

  2. Maybe not the best show of all time- but it is my all-time favorite show 😀 I love me some Joss- just give me the Whedon Scooby Gang and banter of any of his shows and I’m a happy kid. And it all started here. ❤ ❤ Can't wait to read all these.
